On September 10, Japanese shipowner Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K Line) announced the naming ceremony for a 174,000 CBM liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier built by Samsung Heavy Industries. Named “TOHO EMERALD,” the vessel is scheduled for delivery in October 2026.
The vessel is jointly owned by a joint venture established between Kawasaki Heavy Industries and Toho LNG Shipping—a wholly-owned subsidiary of Toho Gas specializing in LNG transportation.
The new vessel has an overall length of approximately 290 meters, a beam of about 45.8 meters, a cargo capacity of 174,000 cubic meters, and a design speed of 19.5 knots. Powered primarily by LNG-fueled ME-GA dual-fuel engines, the vessel helps minimize environmental impact; combining excellent exhaust emission performance with economic efficiency, it is slated to enter service as a state-of-the-art vessel supporting next-generation LNG transport operations.
