On August 21, Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation) jointly signed a contract with China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd. (CSTC) and Regional Container Lines (RCL) for the construction of four Honghu 1,900-TEU container ships, marking a new milestone in the strategic trust between the two parties.

This 1,900-TEU container ship is a flagship of the “Honghu” series independently developed by Huangpu Wenchong. With a total length of 172 meters, a beam of 27.5 meters, and a deadweight of approximately 24,000 tons, the vessel offers advantages such as high loading efficiency, low energy consumption, strong adaptability, and flexible routing capabilities.
The vessel meets the Phase III EEDI energy efficiency requirements of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and is equipped with environmental protection systems such as shore power and desulfurization systems. With its low-carbon, energy-efficient design and compliance with global emissions regulations, it serves as a high-quality, workhorse vessel for feeder services that combines economic efficiency with environmental performance.

RCL is a well-known liner operator with many years of experience in the Asian market and sets stringent requirements for vessel quality, energy efficiency, and reliability. The partnership between the two parties began in 2024, and a project involving a total of eight 4,300-TEU container ships is currently progressing steadily. RCL’s decision to once again place a bulk order for Huangpu Wenchong’s flagship product, the “Honghu” 1,900-TEU container ship, demonstrates RCL’s full recognition of Huangpu Wenchong’s brand reputation in the feeder vessel market. Upon delivery, these vessels will help RCL expand its fleet and enhance its long-term competitiveness.
According to statistics, since the beginning of this year, the “Honghu” series has secured orders for a total of 45 feeder and medium-sized vessels.
