Yizheng Kangping Ship Repair Yard Launches Construction of 5,000 CEU PCTC

A new chapter in China’s PCTC construction unfolded on August 16 in Yizheng, Jiangsu, as Yizheng Kangping Ship Repair Yard started building the first 5,000 CEU car carrier. Featuring a fresh design from CSSC’s MARIC, the vessel is owned by Hainan Chunlong International Shipping.

MARIC states that the 5,000 CEU medium-sized PCTC entering construction represents a new-generation flagship model, independently developed and iteratively upgraded by the company. The design has been comprehensively optimized to suit specific operational scenarios, navigational constraints, and cargo loading requirements, resulting in significantly enhanced versatility and practicality.

The vessel features well-balanced dimensions and excellent navigational capabilities, allowing for seamless passage through the original Panama Canal. Its shallow-draft design ensures compatibility with a wide range of small-to-medium-sized ports—both domestic and international—offering exceptional flexibility in route planning. Additionally, the vessel is equipped with multiple adjustable (liftable) decks, enabling diverse loading configurations; it can accommodate a broad spectrum of Ro-Ro cargo—including SUVs, new energy passenger vehicles, heavy-duty trucks, and construction machinery—thereby greatly expanding its operational scope.

In terms of green and low-carbon design, this vessel model upholds MARIC’s philosophy of green ship development. Although it utilizes a conventional fuel-based propulsion system, its performance metrics strictly comply with the International Maritime Organization’s latest environmental emission standards (EEDI Phase 3). It effectively reduces carbon emissions while maintaining operational efficiency, aligning with the global trend toward green and low-carbon development in the shipping industry.

Hainan Chunlong International Shipping, the company commissioning the vessel, is a new shipowner established in January 2026. Registered in the Yangpu Economic Development Zone of Hainan with a registered capital of RMB 50 million, the company’s core business encompasses international and domestic maritime cargo transport, vessel leasing, shipping agency services, and international ship management, enabling it to engage in foreign-trade deep-sea shipping operations.

According to available information, the PCTC being built by Yizheng Kangping Ship Repair Yard represents one of Hainan Chunlong International Shipping’s initial new shipbuilding projects.

Public records indicate that Yizheng Kangping Ship Repair Yard, established in 2005, is a small-to-medium-sized local private shipyard under the actual control of Kang Huatang. While initially focused on constructing vessels for inland waterways and direct river-to-sea routes, the yard has recently expanded its product portfolio to include feeder container ships for foreign-trade deep-sea routes and PCTCs.
