Hudong-Zhonghua Achieves Back-to-Back LNG Carrier Construction and Delivery Milestones

Recently, Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd. reached two significant milestones for its 174,000 m³ LNG carrier series: delivering one vessel while simultaneously beginning construction on another.

On August 15, Hudong-Zhonghua held a groundbreaking ceremony at its hull assembly workshop for a 174,000 m³ LNG carrier being built for ENN Natural Gas.

On August 17, the 174,000 m³ LNG carrier “AL SABSAB”, built for Qatar Energy, was signed off and delivered.

Both vessels belong to the fifth-generation “Changheng” series—a 174,000 m³ LNG carrier model independently developed by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding—with performance specifications optimized to meet the operational requirements of shipowners and end-users. The rhythmic, batch production of these large LNG carriers demonstrates the company’s deep integration of digital intelligent manufacturing, innovative construction techniques, and lean management across the entire lifecycle of high-end, eco-friendly ship design and construction.

Hudong-Zhonghua stated that, in conjunction with the newly launched construction projects supporting its capacity consolidation and enhancement initiative, the company will focus its efforts on five key dimensions—innovation in craftsmanship, equipment, processes, energy conservation and carbon reduction, and operational control. By doing so, it aims to continuously improve its design, construction, and delivery capabilities, consistently providing global partners with more high-quality vessels.

Construction work supporting the project to consolidate and expand Hudong-Zhonghua’s production capacity commenced on August 15. Positioned as a world-leading base for the final assembly of large-scale vessels, the project is designed to handle the construction of high-end equipment—including LNG carriers and ultra-large container ships—and establishes a dual-site coordinated production model to further boost the shipyard’s manufacturing capacity.
