Industry sources report that the 4,310 CEU pure car and track carrier (PCTC) “Changshenghong” was sold at auction for approximately $42 million. For a medium-sized PCTC that is 26 years old, this sale price is exceptionally high.
This Chinese-flagged PCTC was listed for sale by the Shanghai United Assets and Equity Exchange with a reserve price of 95 million yuan ($14 million); the final transaction price was approximately three times that reserve price.
The “Changshenghong” was built and delivered in 2000 by the Uljanik shipyard in Croatia. Originally named the “Dresden,” it was commissioned at that time by the Norwegian car carrier operator Wallenius Wilhelmsen.
The vessel has an overall length of 176.5 meters, a beam of 31.1 meters, and a designed draft of 7.8 meters. It is equipped with 10 car decks and can carry 4,310 vehicles.
In May 2002, Wilhelmsen sold the vessel to an unnamed buyer for $35.4 million; in July 2017, the vessel was transferred to a Chinese owner and renamed the “Chang Sheng Hong,” after which it was primarily used for domestic and international automobile transport operations in China.
