Chizhou Tianyu Shipbuilding Wins $29M Contract for 25,000 DWT Self-Propelled Deck Carrier

China Ocean Engineering recently announced the winning bidder for the construction project of a 25,000 DWT deck cargo carrier. Chizhou Tianyu Shipbuilding secured the contract with a winning bid of 198 million yuan (approximately US$29 million). The new vessel is required to be completed and delivered by October 31, 2027.

Under the shipbuilding contract, the vessel is a self-propelled deck transport ship with dual-propeller electric propulsion, designed for unlimited navigation areas and classified by the China Classification Society (CCS). It measures 170.5 meters in length, 43 meters in beam, and 10.8 meters in depth, with an operational draft range of 6.0 to 6.5 meters; this shallow-draft design allows it to access most ports and nearshore construction sites worldwide. The vessel has a design speed of 12 knots, a range of 15,000 nautical miles, and an endurance of 30 days. With a complement of 30 personnel, it is capable of continuous, long-distance transoceanic operations.

Records indicate that Chizhou Tianyu Shipbuilding was established in 2010. It specializes in building offshore engineering vessels for international trade, deck cargo carriers, container ships, and inland cargo vessels, and is a key export shipyard at the Chizhou Guichi Shipbuilding Base.

Earlier this year, Chizhou Tianyu Shipbuilding also received an order for a 64.8-meter AHTSS offshore platform multi-purpose workboat. The shipowner for this order is Hong Kong Ward Engineering Co., Ltd., and it marks the first foreign-trade ship order secured by the Guichi Shipbuilding Industrial Base in 2026.
