Sumec Marine Secures Two 1,100 TEU Containership Newbuilding Order from Minsheng Shipping & BOC Financial Leasing

On June 30, Sumec Marine signed newbuilding contracts for two 1,100 TEU container ships with Minsheng Shipping and BOC Financial Leasing, with the ships to be constructed by New Dayang Shipyard, a subsidiary of umec Marine. On the same day, the steel-cutting ceremony for the maiden 1,100 TEU container ship project jointly developed by the three parties was successfully held.

This 1100 TEU container ship features a design that utilizes conventional fuel while being “methanol-ready.” Its Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) fully complies with Phase 3 requirements and Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) standards, making it an eco-friendly vessel that integrates economic efficiency, safety, and smart technology.

Previously, Sumec Marine, Minsheng Shipping, and BOC Financial Leasing signed a contract for the construction of two firm and two optional 1,100 TEU container ships. The project utilizes cross-border RMB settlement, marking the first such initiative for a shipping enterprise in Chongqing.

As a member of Sumec Marine, New Dayang Shipyard has seen its orderbook steadily expand in recent years; delivery schedules are already booked through 2029, with plans to deliver 30 vessels in 2026. Including these latest two vessels, the shipyard has announced over 20 new shipbuilding orders this year, comprising primarily bulk carriers, multi-purpose vessels, and container ships.
