On June 8, Tianjin Minhui Shipping and Tianjin Aframax Shipping—wholly owned subsidiaries of Pingtan Minghui Shipping—formally signed a contract with Taizhou Jianxing Heavy Industry in Taizhou, Zhejiang, for the construction of two 114,000 DWT LR2 oil tankers.
It is reported that the LR2 oil tankers covered by this contract have a total length of 248.8 meters and a designed draft of 13.5 meters, and are scheduled to fly the Liberian flag upon completion. The first vessel is expected to be delivered in the second quarter of 2028, and the second vessel is expected to be delivered by the end of 2028.
Pingtan Minghui Shipping stated that the signing of the contract to build these two LR2 oil tankers represents a significant step toward further optimizing the company’s fleet structure, expanding its carrying capacity, and expanding its international routes. As the mainstay vessel type in the international refined oil transportation market, LR2 oil tankers offer excellent seaworthiness and economic efficiency, and will provide strong support for enhancing the company’s market competitiveness.
According to public records, Taizhou Jianxing Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. was established in 2015 and was formerly known as Zhejiang Kaihang Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd. The shipyard is equipped with one 100,000-ton semi-dry dock and final assembly platform, as well as two 100,000-ton slipways. It features supporting facilities including a 20,000-square-meter block and pre-assembly yard and a fitting-out workshop. With a full range of shipbuilding equipment, the shipyard primarily constructs container ships, oil and chemical tankers, and dry cargo ships.
This is the second shipbuilding contract announced by Taizhou Jianxing Heavy Industry in 2026. Previously, in April, the company signed a contract with Juhe Wisdom Technology to build six 4,350 TEU container ships, which are scheduled for delivery in 2028.
