CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Bags Fresh 2+2 1,900TEU Container Ship Order from Oceanus Shipping & China United Lines

On June 3, CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding, in partnership with China Shipbuilding Trading Co. Ltd (CSTC), inked another construction contract for 2+2 1,900 TEU container ships with Greece’s Oceanus Shipping and China United Lines, with representatives from all parties attending the signing ceremony.

Since the beginning of this year, Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding has signed multiple newbuild contracts for container ships with Greece’s Oceanus Shipping and China United Lines.

On April 2, Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding announced a contract with Oceanus Shipping for two firm and two optional 1,800 TEU container ships; on April 28, China United Lines placed an order with the yard for four 6,400 TEU medium-sized container ships. Including the latest order for two firm and two optional vessels, these two shipowners have placed orders with Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding for a total of eight firm and four optional newbuilds across three vessel types.

Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding stated that the 1,900 TEU container vessel ordered by Oceanus Shipping belongs to the shipyard’s proprietary “Honghu” series of premium feeder ships—a class of vessel that officially entered the Greek market in 2025. As a key builder of high-end international feeder container ships, Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding has established an integrated industry chain covering R&D, construction, delivery, and operations and maintenance; the “Honghu” series is highly favored by shipowners both at home and abroad.

Just the day before the Oceanus Shipping shipbuilding contract was launched (June 2), another Greek shipowner, OceanV Maritime, had put into effect two “Honghu” 1900TEU feeder container ships in Wenchong, Huangpu, increasing the number of orders for the same type of ships in cooperation between the two parties to eight.

Regarding the newly signed containership project, Huangpu Wenchong stated that the order would further expand its orderbook and solidify the shipbuilder’s leading position in the global market for feeder containership construction.

It is worth noting that Oceanus Shipping—a renowned international ship management and operations company—has historically favored Japanese shipyards for its shipbuilding projects but has recently begun shifting new orders to Chinese shipyards.

In addition to the order with Huangpu Wenchong, reports indicate that Oceanus Shipping has placed orders with Taizhou Sanfu Shipbuilding for 4+2 2,400 TEU container ships—valued at approximately $270 million in total, with a unit cost of around $45 million—with the first four vessels expected for delivery between 2028 and 2029. The company also placed orders with Jiangsu Hantong Ship Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. (HT) for 4+4 82,000 DWT bulk carriers, with a total contract value of $288 million and expected delivery in 2028; this marks Oceanus Shipping’s first shipbuilding order placed in China.
