On May 22, CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., in collaboration with China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd. (CSTC), formally signed a contract with GMXT for the construction of two railcar carriers. This partnership marks another major achievement in the shipbuilder’s market expansion efforts. The railcar carrier signed in this agreement was designed by the Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute (SDARI) and employs a medium-speed engine propulsion system that balances navigational efficiency with operational economy. With a total length of 180 meters and a beam of 38.6 meters, the vessel has a deadweight tonnage of approximately 18,950 tons. Equipped with twin engines and twin propellers as well as a bow thruster system, it offers excellent maneuverability, allowing it to adapt flexibly to various navigational environments and operational requirements, and efficiently carry out train transport-related tasks.
Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding possesses extensive experience and proven technology in the construction of railcar carriers. In 2021, the shipbuilder successfully built and delivered two vessels of this type, which are the world’s largest railcar carriers. Among them, the “Cherokee” was selected as one of the “Top 10 Best Ships of 2021” by the authoritative U.S. shipping magazine Marine Log. Thanks to their superior construction quality and outstanding operational performance, these vessels have become the mainstay of the fleet.
