On May 18, Jiangxi Duchang Shipyard Co., Ltd. and Shanghai Dihai Logistics Co., Ltd. formally signed a contract for two 7,500 DWT international ocean-going chemical/oil tankers, marking a new breakthrough for this long-established inland shipyard in the high-end ocean-going liquid cargo vessel sector.

It is understood that the 7,500 DWT international ocean-going chemical/oil tanker will be independently designed by Duchang Shipyard to meet the demands of international ocean-going chemical and refined oil transportation.
The new vessel will integrate the company’s digital shipbuilding processes with green and environmentally friendly technologies, strictly adhering to International Maritime Organization (IMO) environmental standards. It will feature low emissions, high energy efficiency, and high safety, capable of meeting the transportation requirements of complex deep-sea routes. Upon commissioning, it will further optimize Shanghai Dihai Logistics’ deep-sea shipping capacity structure.
According to public records, Duchang Shipyard is a long-established shipbuilding enterprise. Formerly known as the Jiangxi Duchang Shipyard, it was founded in 1950 and was the first county-level shipyard in Jiangxi Province at the time. It was once designated by the Ministry of Communications as a designated facility for the construction of steel-hulled vessels. The company occupies a site area of 139,000 square meters with 711 meters of waterfront. It currently operates five 15,000-ton slipways and supporting workshops, with an annual shipbuilding capacity exceeding 100,000 tons. As the largest shipbuilding enterprise on the inland waters of Jiangxi Province, its product range includes steel-hulled vessels such as chemical tankers, bulk carriers, and oil tankers.

In 2023, Duchang Shipyard accelerated its transformation and upgrading efforts, increased investment in technological innovation and R&D, and allocated over 3 million yuan to build a new green and smart workshop, striving to drive the company’s transition toward greener, smarter, and higher-end operations.
In July 2025, Duchang Shipyard expanded into the new energy vessel sector by investing 60 million yuan to advance a project aimed at commercializing high-end new energy vessel manufacturing technology. The project covers an area of approximately 70,000 square meters and is equipped with automated production facilities such as CNC plasma cutters, CNC three-roll plate rollers, painting equipment, and intelligent management systems. It involves the digital and intelligent transformation of existing production lines, primarily for the manufacture of new energy oil and chemical product carriers ranging from 1,000 to 10,000 tons.
