On August 21, a contract was officially signed for the construction of 4+2 28,000 DWT stainless steel chemical tankers—a project jointly invested in by Yangzijiang Maritime and Taihua Ship Management—which will be built at Zhoushan Ningxing Shipbuilding and Repair Co., Ltd.

Zhoushan Ningxing Shipbuilding and Repair stated that the 28,000 DWT duplex stainless steel chemical tanker covered by this contract features a high-end liquid cargo hold design that is widely adopted in the industry, making it suitable for transporting a wide range of clean liquid cargoes, including fine chemicals and refined oil products. This vessel type offers advantages such as excellent corrosion resistance and outstanding safety and environmental performance, aligning closely with the global trend toward greener and higher-end liquid cargo carriers.
As the flagship product line of Zhoushan Ningxing Shipbuilding and Repair, duplex stainless steel chemical tankers have been the shipyard’s core construction focus for many years, and it has successfully delivered more than 10 stainless steel vessels this year.

According to the shipbuilder, since the beginning of this year, the company has continued to deepen its strategic cooperation with leading domestic shipping companies. It has successfully secured contracts with domestic and international shipowners for 30 5,300 DWT duplex stainless steel chemical tankers, with a current order backlog of more than 50 vessels and 40 prospective orders under negotiation, bringing the total order value to over 15 billion yuan. The vessel types include 13,800 DWT, 33,000 DWT, 13,800 DWT, and 4,000 DWT duplex stainless steel chemical tankers.
This is the second new shipbuilding project recently disclosed by Yangzijiang Maritime. A few days ago, market reports indicated that Yangzijiang Maritime had placed an additional order with Jiangsu Haifeng Shipbuilding for four 50,000 DWT MR product tankers and two 115,000 DWT LR2 product tankers, with deliveries expected to begin in 2028.
By the first half of 2026, Yangzijiang Maritime’s fleet had grown to more than 120 vessels, including more than 60 newly built ships, covering a variety of vessel types such as oil tankers, gas carriers, bulk carriers, container ships, and offshore support vessels, with a primary focus on the bulk carrier and oil tanker markets.
