On May 15, Yangzi Xinfu Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group, delivered and set sail the world’s first 24,000 TEU LNG dual-fuel ultra-large container ship CMA CGM NOTRE DAME built for CMA CGM, marking its official maiden voyage.

The “CMA CGM NOTRE DAME” is the lead first in a series of 10 24,000-TEU LNG dual-fuel ultra-large container ships built by Yangzijiang Shipbuilding for CMA CGM, and is also the largest LNG dual-fuel container ship in terms of container capacity in Yangzijiang Shipbuilding’s history. The vessel was launched in November 2024, with a construction period of 552 days, and was completed and delivered 50 days ahead of the contractual schedule.
It is worth noting that this vessel is also the first 24,000-TEU dual-fuel container ship in the world to be built and delivered by a private Chinese shipyard, setting a new record for private shipbuilders in the ultra-large container ship sector.

This vessel is classed by Bureau Veritas (BV) of France. It has a length of 399.9 meters, a beam of 61.30 meters, a depth of 33.5 meters, a design draft of 14.5 meters, a structural draft of 16.5 meters, and a service speed of 21.55 knots. Equipped with 18,600 cubic meters of membrane fuel tanks, the vessel can operate round-trip services between Asia and Europe on a single LNG refueling. It is currently one of the most environmentally friendly, technically advanced, and operationally efficient ultra-large container ships in global service.
In June 2023, CMA CGM placed an order with Yangzi Jiang Shipbuilding for 10 24,000-TEU dual-fuel LNG-powered container ships, each costing $240 million, with delivery scheduled to take place between 2026 and 2027. With this major order, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding has become China’s first private shipbuilder to construct 24,000-TEU dual-fuel container ships.
