Dajin Heavy Industry Secures New $153M Bulk Carrier Order from Greek Shipowner

On May 11, Dajin Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Dajin Heavy Industry”) issued an announcement stating that the company signed two bulk carrier construction contracts with a subsidiary of a Greek shipowner, with a total contract value of approximately US$153 million (approximately RMB 1.044 billion).

The announcement disclosed that Dajin Heavy Industry will design, build and deliver two 211,000 DWT bulk carriers for it. Each ship is approximately 299.95 meters long, 50 meters wide and 25 meters deep, and is expected to be delivered in batches in 2029.

It is understood that the shipowner is a major Greek shipping and ship management company, primarily engaged in dry bulk, container, and tanker operations. The signing of this contract signifies that Dajin Heavy Industry’s shipbuilding capabilities are further recognized by international clients.

It is worth noting that this is the fourth time this year that Dajin Heavy Industry has received an order for this type of vessel. In late February and early March, Dajin Heavy Industry received a total of four 211,000 DWT bulk carriers from Greek shipowner Danaos Corporation, which are expected to be delivered in 2028, with a total cost of nearly US$300 million (approximately RMB 2.074 billion).

In late March, Seatankers Management, the private investment company of Norwegian shipping magnate John Fredriksen, signed a contract with Panjin Dajin, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Dajin Heavy Industry, to build 4+4 Newcastlemax bulk carriers with a deadweight tonnage of 210,000 tons.

In late April, Dajin Heavy Industry officially announced that it had signed shipbuilding contracts with a Norwegian shipowner and a Greek shipowner. The total order amount was nearly US$600 million (equivalent to more than RMB4 billion), which included eight bulk carriers (four for each shipowner), with a price of approximately RMB500 million per ship.

It is understood that Dajin Panjin shipbuilding is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Dajin Heavy Industry, established in 2022. It is a core member of Dajin Heavy Industry’s three major marine engineering bases in the Bohai Rim region, specializing in the construction of specialized vessels for marine engineering, including various types of self-propelled deck transport vessels, semi-submersible vessels, heavy-lift vessels, floating docks, and wind power maintenance vessels.

Dajin Heavy Industry is the first listed company in China’s wind power tower industry. Founded in 2000, it has now become a leading global wind power equipment manufacturer.

Currently, Dajin Heavy Industry is actively expanding its mainstream merchant shipbuilding business, and with the latest orders, it has announced 14+4 Newcastlemax bulk carriers this year.
