Shandong Fortune Shipbuilding Signs Contract for Two 10,000 m³ Ocean-Going Refrigerated Cargo Ships with Tianjin Haiyu

On April 29, Chinese shipbuilder Shandong Fortune Shipbuilding held a signing ceremony with Tianjin Haiyu International Shipping Co., Ltd. for two 10,000 m³ ocean-going refrigerated cargo ships.

It is reported that these two ultra-large-capacity refrigerated cargo ships, each with a capacity of 10,000 cubic meters, offer distinct technical advantages and industry-leading capabilities—they are China’s first specialized refrigerated cargo ships to fully comply with the IACS UR E26 and UR E27 cybersecurity standards.

The ship features advanced 3D digital design that closely aligns with the practical operational requirements of deep-sea refrigerated transport. While strictly adhering to international regulations and comprehensive safety standards, it maximizes cargo hold space utilization, achieving industry-leading transport efficiency.

The ship is equipped with an 800 kW shaft generator, which can be powered directly by the main engine during navigation without the need to start the main generator. This not only significantly reduces energy consumption and improves operational efficiency but also effectively reduces the crew’s workload in equipment operation and maintenance. Additionally, the shaft generator system is equipped with water-cooled variable-frequency drives, which offer excellent heat dissipation and stable, reliable operation. This further ensures the efficient and safe operation of the ship’s electrical system, providing a solid foundation for long-distance voyages.

It is understood that Shandong Fortune Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. is a modern shipbuilding enterprise with profound heritage and strong strength. Its development journey dates back to 1953, when Rongcheng County No.2 Shipyard was founded, marking the start of its shipbuilding career. As a backbone enterprise specialized in the design, construction and maintenance of steel fishing vessels in northern China, it was restructured into Rongcheng Haida Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. in 1998. In July 2025, the company completed comprehensive strategic upgrading and reorganization, officially establishing Shandong Fortune Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. By integrating its profound historical accumulation with modern capital and management resources, it is forging ahead into the future with a brand-new posture.

Shandong Fortune Shipbuilding currently operates two facilities, one in the north and one in the south, covering a total area of 450,000 square meters. The company is equipped with one 270-meter × 68-meter slipway and one 160-meter × 45-meter slipway, as well as 300-ton and 150-ton gantry cranes. Its outfitting quay spans a total length of 680 meters, with an annual steel processing capacity of 60,000 tons, enabling the construction of various types of vessels up to 80,000 deadweight tons.

To date, Shandong Fortune Shipbuilding has built more than 1,200 steel fishing vessels of various types, as well as over 30 bulk carriers, multi-purpose vessels, and engineering vessels. Its products are exported to Europe, Africa, Southeast Asia, and other regions.

To enhance its industrial competitiveness, the shipbuilder is actively promoting an upgrade and renovation project. The plan includes constructing a new 2,000-meter-long breakwater and shore-side wharf, building two large offshore engineering dry docks (Dock #1: 260m x 48m, Dock #2: 350m x 60m), and constructing modern production facilities such as a combined workshop, section workshop, painting workshop, new energy conversion site, and comprehensive warehouse. The plan also includes adding over 1,000 sets of advanced equipment, such as gantry cranes, portal cranes, and slewing tugboats, with a total estimated investment of 4 billion yuan.

Upon completion, Shandong Fortune Shipbuilding will have a complete capacity to build all types of ships up to 100,000 tons, and will focus on expanding its business in LNG/methanol dual-fuel power conversion, high-end ship repair, and marine engineering equipment manufacturing.
