Guangzhou Shipyard International Delivers Record-Breaking 10,800 CEU PCTC “Glovis Leader” to HMM

Guangzhou Shipyard International announced that on April 28, the “Glovis Leader”, the world’s first 10,800 CEU pure car and track carrier (PCTC) built for South Korea’s HMM, was named and delivered. The vessel will subsequently be operated by Hyundai Glovis Co., Ltd. This vessel, along with four subsequent deliveries and three 8,600 CEU PCTCs delivered last year, will lay the foundation for HMM’s full-scale development of its PCTC business.

The “Glovis Leader” was designed by the Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute (SDARI) of China State Shipbuilding Corporation. The vessel is 230 meters long, 40 meters wide, has a design draft of 10.5 meters, a design speed of 19 knots, and a maximum vehicle capacity of 10,800 vehicles, setting a new global record for the carrying capacity of similar vessels.

According to CCTV, China exported 2.226 million vehicles in the first quarter of this year, a year-on-year increase of 56.7%. The rapid growth in demand for vehicle exports has driven up demand for car carriers in the global shipping market. In the first quarter of 2026, China delivered 11 PCTCs.

It is reported that as a leading builder of PCTCs, Guangzhou Shipyard International has secured orders for more than 40 PCTCs to date and has successfully delivered 26 of them, including 19 7,000 CEU vessels, 6 8,600 CEU vessels, and 1 10,800 CEU LNG dual-fuel PCTC.

Currently, Guangzhou Shipyard International has a shipbuilding order backlog valued at 100 billion yuan, with international orders accounting for over 95% of the total, and its production schedule is already booked through 2030.
