On April 22, China CSSC Holdings Limited (hereinafter referred to as “CSSC” or “the Company”) announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (DSIC), in conjunction with China Shipbuilding Trading Co. Ltd (CSTC), signed a contract with a well-known shipowner for the construction of 12 9,200 TEU container ships, which recently came into effect. The total contract value is approximately RMB 9 billion (approximately US$1.318 billion). The order will be paid in RMB and will be delivered successively between 2028 and 2030.

The vessel type signed this time is a new generation of medium-sized container ships built by DSIC in line with the international trend of green energy development in shipping and in accordance with the latest global environmental design standards. The performance indicators of this vessel type have reached world-class levels, and it has achieved the world’s leading level in core areas such as overall performance, environmental performance, and operational reliability.
CSSC stated that the project will fully leverage DSIC’s core advantages in construction efficiency, accelerate product structure upgrades, and further solidify DSIC’s performance foundation and brand influence in the container ship sector.
This month, DSIC has announced several new ship orders, bringing the total to 22+2, including the latest 12. These are mainly Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs), product tankers, and container ships, including 8+2 VLCCs and 2 product tankers.
The 12 container ships that have now come into effect represent DSIC’s first publicly announced container ship order this year. The remaining new ship projects are all from the tanker market, with tanker orders totaling at least 20 vessels.
