On April 22, Hainan Sikanrui Shipping Co., Ltd. and Yangzhou Guoyu Shipbuilding successfully held a signing ceremony to officially reach a cooperation agreement on the construction of a 5,000 TEU container ship.

This type of container ship incorporates modern green ship design principles. With an overall length of approximately 243 meters and a beam of 37.3 meters, it has a standard container capacity of 5,000 TEU. Designed to meet the operational requirements of long-haul multi-route services, it aligns with the global trend toward low-carbon shipping and offers significant advantages in terms of operational efficiency, loading flexibility, and environmental performance.
According to reports, Hainan Sikanrui Shipping Co., Ltd. is a new shipowner established in November 2025. It is registered in the Yangpu Economic Development Zone of Hainan Province, with Liu Peizhi serving as its legal representative and a registered capital of RMB 5 million.
Hainan Sikanrui Shipping primarily engages in ship operations and maritime logistics-related businesses. Currently, no public information is available regarding the company’s fleet size, routes, or partners. This means that the contract signed with Yangzhou Guoyu Shipbuilding for the construction of a 5,000-TEU container ship marks the company’s first new ship order since its establishment and will inject new momentum into its deep-sea shipping operations.
Including its latest shipbuilding project, all of the new ship orders announced by Yangzhou Guoyu Shipbuilding this year are 5,000 TEU container ships.
In January, Yangzhou Guoyu Shipbuilding announced the signing of a contract with Qianyuan Shipping for the construction of a 5,000-TEU container ship; Mediterranean Shipping Company reportedly placed an order with the shipbuilder for four 5,000-TEU container ships, marking the first time the liner giant has ordered medium-sized container ships since 2023.
In February, Greek shipowner Conbulk confirmed orders for two 5,000-TEU container ships and placed orders for two additional vessels with Yangzhou Guoyu Shipbuilding, bringing its total order backlog for this ship type at the yard to six vessels.
Yangzhou Guoyu Shipbuilding is a reactivated shipyard established in June 2005 and restructured by DCL Investments in July 2024. With an annual production capacity of 2 million deadweight tons, the shipyard focuses on shipbuilding, ship repair, and high-end equipment manufacturing, prioritizing the development of LNG-powered vessels and dual-fuel container ships, while also undertaking projects for bulk carriers, oil tankers, and special-purpose vessels.
