Construction Begins on the Renovation and Expansion Project of the Dalian COSCO Shipping Kawasaki No. 3 Outfitting Wharf

On March 31, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for the renovation and expansion project of the Dalian COSCO Shipping Kawasaki No. 3 Outfitting Wharf, marking the project’s official entry into the full-scale construction phase.

According to reports, the project plans to extend the length of Pier 3 from 420 meters to 520 meters, involving the reconstruction and reinforcement of the pier structure as well as the construction of ancillary facilities, with a total construction period of 180 days. Currently, as the shipping market continues to demand larger, greener, and smarter vessels, the requirements for shipyard outfitting piers are also becoming increasingly stringent.

The existing length of Pier 3 is no longer sufficient to meet the safe berthing requirements of ultra-large vessels, such as 24,000 TEU methanol-dual-fuel container ships, and has become a major bottleneck constraining production and operations.

Upon completion of the project, Pier 3 will be capable of accommodating the world’s largest dual-fuel container ships, such as those with a capacity of 24,000 TEU, and will fully meet the operational requirements of ultra-large green and new energy vessels. This holds significant strategic importance for Dalian COSCO Shipping Kawasaki in overcoming development bottlenecks, enhancing its capacity to secure and deliver high-end orders, strengthening its competitiveness in the international market, and achieving the efficiency and production growth targets set for the 15th Five-Year Plan.
