On August 14, Ningbo Ocean Shipping completed the signing of a contract with Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group Co., Ltd. (“WS”) for the construction of four 1,900 TEU container ships, marking the project’s official entry into the implementation phase.

The 1,900 TEU container ship covered by this contract was designed by the Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute (SDARI). With a total length of approximately 171.95 meters and a beam of 27.5 meters, it is precisely tailored to the specific shipping conditions in Asian waters. Its design meets the energy efficiency index standards set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) for emissions reduction, combining low fuel consumption, high energy efficiency, and strong cargo-carrying capacity, making it a truly eco-friendly vessel.
In addition, the contract includes an option to build two more vessels of the same type in addition to the four newbuilds. Ningbo Ocean Shipping may decide whether to proceed with the additional construction within the agreed timeframe based on market and operational needs, thereby reserving flexibility for future capacity expansion.
Currently, Ningbo Ocean Shipping owns a total of 33 green, energy-efficient vessels, accounting for nearly 60 percent of its owned fleet. In addition to the vessel types covered by this agreement, Ningbo Ocean Shipping has four 2,700 TEU and four 4,300 TEU container ships under construction, all of which are progressing efficiently and are expected to be delivered in stages starting in 2027.
