On March 6, HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE), the intermediate holding company for HD Hyundai Group’s shipbuilding business, announced that it had signed a contract with a Greek shipowner to build two 157,000 DWT Suezmax oil tankers. The total order value is 263.2 billion won (approximately US$178 million), with a cost of approximately US$89 million per vessel.

The new vessels will be built by HD Hyundai Samho and are expected to be delivered in batches before May 31, 2029.
Just one day before the crude oil tanker order was announced, HD KSOE also announced that it had won four 200,000 cubic meter LNG carriers at a total cost of over US$1 billion, with the shipowners being Norway’s Ocean Yield and Nippon Yusen.
Including the latest orders, HD KSOE has secured orders for 31 new vessels worth US$4.55 billion (approximately 6.7162 trillion won) so far this year, achieving 19.5% of its annual order target of US$23.31 billion.
Classified by vessel type, the fleet includes 10 LNG carriers, 10 container ships, 3 LPG/ammonia carriers, 6 crude oil carriers, and 2 product tankers.
