Recently, the bid award results for the “2025 New Shipbuilding Project of MOON KEUNG SHIPPING & TRANSPORTATION COMPANY LIMITED” were announced: Jiangsu New Yangzi Shipbuilding has successfully secured the contract. The project involves the construction of four 1,900 TEU container ships. New Yangzi Shipbuilding’s bid price was RMB 820 million, translating to a unit cost of RMB 205 million (approximately US$30 million) per vessel.
The information on the winning bidders indicates that Sumec Marine and Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group also participated in the bidding for the four 1,900 TEU container ships, ranking as the second and third winning bidders respectively.

According to the bid award notice, New Yangzi Shipbuilding will deliver the first vessel within 819 days after the contract is signed and takes effect, followed by the second vessel one month later. The delivery date for the third vessel is March 2029, with subsequent deliveries occurring monthly thereafter (including any optional vessels, if applicable). This indicates that two vessels from this new order are expected to be delivered in 2028, with another two scheduled for delivery in the first half of 2029.
According to industry sources, the construction contract was signed recently.
Records indicate that MOON KEUNG SHIPPING & TRANSPORTATION COMPANY LIMITED was incorporated in Hong Kong on November 20, 1987, as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Shanghai Jinjiang Shipping (Group) Co., Ltd. Jinjiang Shipping holds 100% of its equity, with Shanghai International Port (Group) Co., Ltd. as its ultimate controlling shareholder. Its primary business is maritime container freight transportation, serving markets across mainland China, Hong Kong, South Korea, other Asian countries, Southeast Asia, Taiwan, Western Europe, and other regions.
In June 2024, Jinjiang Shipping expanded the implementing entities for the “International Container Transport Vessel Acquisition Project” and the “Container Acquisition Project” to include MOON KEUNG SHIPPING & TRANSPORTATION. In September 2025, to expand its fleet, Jinjiang Shipping utilized RMB 329 million in raised funds to increase capital in MOON KEUNG SHIPPING & TRANSPORTATION for the “International Container Shipping Vessel Acquisition Project.” Concurrently, two new single-vessel companies wholly owned by MOON KEUNG SHIPPING & TRANSPORTATION—SUPER TONE and SUPER RANGE—were added as specific implementing entities for the project.
According to its official website, Jinjiang Shipping was established in 1983 and primarily engages in international and domestic maritime container transportation services. Its main operations include Northeast Asia routes, Southeast Asia routes, and domestic routes.

The New Yangzi Shipbuilding, which secured the contract for four 1,900 TEU container ships for MOON KEUNG SHIPPING & TRANSPORTATION, is a shipbuilding subsidiary under Yangzijiang Shipbuilding.
As China’s largest private shipbuilder, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding has just released its 2025 Annual Performance Announcement: During the reporting period, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding achieved operating revenue of RMB 28.5 billion, representing a year-on-year increase of 7.4%; net profit reached RMB 8.6 billion, up 30.2% year-on-year. Profitability saw a significant leap, with net profit hitting a record high.
