CIMC Raffles Launches First Methanol-Ready Ro-Ro Vessel for Faroese Owner Smyril Line

On February 12, CIMC Raffles Offshore Engineering Pte Ltd (CIMC Raffles) successfully launched the first 3,300-meter lane meter Ro‑Ro vessel it built for Faroe Islands shipowner Smyril Line.

The launching operation commenced on February 7, when the vessel officially began its sliding operation and was successfully loaded onto the barge on the same day. On February 12, assisted by several tugs, the vessel safely launched from the barge and floated steadily on the water.

CIMC Raffles and Smyril Line signed an agreement in 2024 for two 3,300-meter lane-capacity methanol-reserved Ro-Ro vessels. This vessel type was developed in collaboration between Smyril Line and ship design firm Knud E. Hansen. The vessels are 189.5 meters long and designed and built to methanol-reserved specifications.

CIMC Raffles, as the general contractor, is responsible for the overall design and construction of the project and plans to deliver the two vessels in stages throughout 2026. After delivery, the vessels will sail on a special route in the North Atlantic between Europe, the Faroe Islands and Iceland.
