Equinor Brasil Exercises One-Year Option for Seadrill’s West Saturn Drillship

Offshore drilling contractor Seadrill recently announced that Equinor Brasil Energia has exercised its one-year pricing option for the ultra-deepwater drillship West Saturn.

The option exercised has increased Seadrill’s contract backlog by approximately $114 million and extended the original agreement through October 2027. The drillship has been operating for Equinor in Brazilian offshore waters since 2022.

The West Saturn, built in 2014, is a Samsung 12000-class design with a maximum drilling depth of 37,500 feet. As a seventh-generation ultra-deepwater dual-purpose drillship, it has operated in West African and Brazilian waters.

Seadrill’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Simon Johnson, commented, “The continuation of the contract into a sixth consecutive year reinforces our long-term collaboration with Equinor in Brazil, where we have a shared commitment to delivering safe and reliable offshore operations in a strategically important basin”.

Seadrill is setting the standard in deepwater oil and gas drilling. With its modern fleet, experienced crews, and advanced technologies, Seadrill safely, efficiently, and responsibly unlocks oil and gas resources for national, integrated, and independent oil companies.
