Southeast Shipyard Holds Naming Ceremony for Two 18,500 DWT Oil/Chemical Tankers

On January 16, Southeast Shipyard, a subsidiary of Fujian Shipbuilding Industry Group Corporation (Fujian Shipbuilding), successfully held the naming ceremony for two 18,500 DWT oil/chemical tankers (DN517-7/8).

The vessel has an overall length of 149.8 meters and a beam of 22.8 meters. It is pre-equipped for conversion to methanol dual-fuel operation and is designed to transport crude oil, petroleum products with a density below 1.54 tons per cubic meter, chemicals (Classes II and III), liquid chemicals and petroleum products classified as IMO Classes II and III as defined in MARPOL Annex I and the IBC Code.

The main engines and generator sets of this vessel are equipped with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems for nitrogen oxide emission control, meeting IMO Tier III requirements and ICE CLASS 1C ice-strengthened specifications.

The vessel features a multi-deadweight line design to meet requirements of various flag states and ports. Its liquid cargo system employs six independent transfer systems driven by variable-frequency hydraulic power, enabling simultaneous unloading of six cargo sets.

The vessel’s propulsion system adopts a low-speed two-stroke diesel engine, paired with a controllable pitch propeller, a front-mounted energy-saving stator device, and a flap rudder system equipped with a rudder bulb. It is also fitted with a variable-frequency shaft generator set, enabling generator-free operation during navigation. This design not only reduces the vessel’s energy consumption but also enhances its maneuverability.

The naming of these two vessels marks another significant milestone in the deepening collaboration between Fujian Shipbuilding and Seacon Shipping Group, SeaKapital Holdings. During the construction process, the project team drew extensively on experience from previous series-built vessels, continuously optimizing key processes such as sectional construction and ship launching commissioning to ensure all performance metrics met design specifications.

To date, Fujian Shipbuilding has successfully delivered a total of 17 18,500 DWT oil and chemical tankers to the international market, establishing a strong market reputation and brand influence. The naming of these two new vessels not only demonstrates Fujian Shipbuilding’s mature mass production capabilities in the oil and chemical tanker sector but also provides a powerful impetus for further expanding its global market presence.
