Wuchang Shipbuilding Kicks Off New Year with Orders for Nine Green Container Ships

Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group, a subsidiary of China Shipbuilding Group, has signed new contracts for the construction of five 1100 TEU container ships and four 1800 TEU container ships, which officially came into effect at the beginning of the new year.

This collaboration stems from Wuchang Shipbuilding’s technological expertise in green intelligent vessels and high-end offshore equipment, coupled with its outstanding performance in building feeder container ships.

In recent years, Wuchang Shipbuilding has delivered a series of benchmark projects including LNG-powered offshore vessels, wind-assisted methanol-powered RoRo vessels, chemical tankers, and feeder container ships. All feeder container ships built for renowned domestic and international shipowners have been delivered on schedule with high quality. The company’s exceptional product quality and efficient project management capabilities have earned high praise in the market.

Meanwhile, Wuchang Shipbuilding is strengthening its core brand competitiveness through technological innovation and reinforcing independent research and development of new ship types. Three of its independently designed products, including the 1320 TEU methanol dual-fuel container ship and the 1900 TEU Bangkok-type container ship, have obtained AIP certificates from classification societies, continuously expanding its range of feeder container ships.

Wuchang Shipbuilding’s independently designed 18,600 DWT special-coated oil/chemical tanker, 26,000 DWT duplex stainless steel oil/chemical tanker, and 29,000 DWT ammonia-fueled duplex stainless steel chemical tanker have obtained classification society certificates and completed model tests. The company’s self-developed chemical tanker designs now span from 7,000 DWT to 29,000 DWT, while its self-developed oil/chemical tanker portfolio has been largely established. Wuchang Shipbuilding demonstrates outstanding technical integration and innovation capabilities, injecting strong momentum into the green transformation of the shipping industry.

In the future, Wuchang Shipbuilding will further commit itself to conducting in-depth cooperation with shipowners, classification societies, research institutes and other stakeholders across the industrial chain in such fields as technological innovation, green and low-carbon development, smart ships and smart manufacturing. It will jointly build a safe, efficient, green and resilient global maritime transportation system, and inject new impetus into China’s maritime and shipbuilding industry to fulfill the development goals of the 15th Five-Year Plan and accelerate the construction of a maritime power.

Wuchang Shipbuilding has commenced preliminary preparations for this series of vessels. The project will be advanced through a rhythmic construction model to ensure high-quality, on-schedule delivery, creating greater value for customers and contributing to China’s development as a maritime power.
