China’s First Integrated Large Offshore Well Stimulation Vessel “Haiyang Shiyou 696” Commences Sea Trials

Wuhu Shipyard recently held the sea trial launch ceremony for the large-scale well stimulation vessel “Haiyang Shiyou 696”, which it constructed for CNOOC (China) Limited.

Data indicates that the “Haiyang Shiyou 696” is the WS25000 -class vessel of the Tuna Offshore Series, independently developed by the Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute (SDARI). It is an integrated, large-scale, professional fracturing vessel primarily designed for offshore large-scale fracturing operations while also capable of performing fracturing and filling functions.

The vessel is 99.8 meters long and 22 meters wide. It is equipped with a series of fracturing equipment such as fluid supply, mixing, and sand mixing. It has highly integrated, intelligent, high displacement, high power, large storage capacity, and high safety operation capabilities, enabling efficient and large-scale fracturing operations at sea. It is the first integrated large well stimulation vessel built in China.

Haiyang Shiyou 696 commenced construction in early 2024, laid its keel on November 21, 2024, was launched on April 3, 2025, and commenced sea trials on December 26, 2025.
