MSC Completes Major Fleet Expansion as Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Delivers12th 16,000 TEU LNG Dual-Fuel Vessel

On December 27, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group’s Yangzi Xinfu Shipbuilding delivered the “MSC SAUDI ARABIA”, the twelfth LNG dual-fuel 16,000TEU container ship built for Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), and put it into operation.

This vessel is a large container ship equipped with a Type B LNG fuel tank made of 9Ni steel, featuring a fuel tank capacity exceeding 13,000 cubic meters. The vessel has an overall length of approximately 366 meters, a length between perpendiculars of 355.4 meters, a breadth of 51 meters, a depth of 30.2 meters, a design draft of 14.5 meters, and a structural draft of 17 meters.

The vessel is equipped with energy-saving features including shaft generators, air lubrication, rudder balls, and twisted fins. Its dual-fuel main engine employs ECOEGR optimization technology, enabling compliance with Tier III emission standards while further reducing fuel consumption.

It is understood that the vessel commenced construction in mid-December 2024, laid keel for outfitting by the end of May 2025, launched in mid-October, and successfully completed sea trials by mid-December, with all test results meeting design specifications. On December 18, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group and MSC jointly held a naming ceremony for the new vessel.

On December 22, Mr. CH Giuseppe Gargiulo, China Manager of MSC Newbuildings, and Mr. Yang Xueyan, Deputy General Manager of Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group and General Manager of Yangzi Xinfu Shipyard, signed the delivery documents on behalf of their respective parties.

The delivery of the “MSC SAUDI ARABIA” marks the successful completion of MSC’s 12 LNG dual-fuel 16,000 TEU container ships project. Yangzijiang Shipbuilding stated that, looking back on its cooperation with MSC, the two parties have jointly completed more than 30 single/dual-fuel container ship projects of various types, including 12,200 TEU, 14,000 TEU, 16,000 TEU, and 24,000 TEU, in recent years.
