CHIMBUSCO Launches First Vehicle-to-Ship LNG Bunkering Operation

On December 27, China Marine Bunker(PetroChina)Co.Ltd. (CHIMBUSCO), in conjunction with China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), successfully completed the vehicle-to-ship LNG bunkering operation for the international vessel “BYD JINAN” at Xiaomo Port in Shenzhen.

This operation marks China’s first-ever vehicle-to-vessel LNG fuel bunkering for a sailing vessel, signifying a new breakthrough for CHIMBUSCO in the field of LNG bunkering for international vessels. It establishes China’s position and provides a Chinese solution for the global shipping industry’s low-carbon transition.

To ensure efficient and safe operations, CHIMBUSCO proactively collaborates with port management and terminal operators to establish a comprehensive safety control mechanism covering the entire supply chain.

Before the operation, CHIMBUSCO accurately planned the operation path through three-dimensional motion simulation and improved the contingency plan by using the intelligent emergency drill system; during the operation, it relied on infrared real-time monitoring, intelligent emergency response system and dynamic data monitoring platform to implement refined management and control of the whole process, and multiple protective measures to build a solid safety line.

This LNG bunkering operation was completed simultaneously with cargo loading and unloading, achieving seamless integration between green fuel supply and international vessel operations. It significantly enhanced vessel turnaround efficiency and established a safety benchmark for coordinated green bunkering at the port.

The successful completion of the inaugural vehicle-to-ship LNG bunkering operation marks a significant achievement for CHIMBUSCO in advancing green shipping energy solutions. This milestone extends the company’s capabilities from ship repair and construction to multi-modal bunkering services—including ship-to-ship and vehicle-to-ship operations—for methanol and LNG across inland waterways and international shipping routes. It fully demonstrates China’s technological breakthroughs and industrial strength in the low-carbon transformation of the shipping sector.
