On December 26, Shandong Luhai Equipment Group successfully partnered with Singapore’s Bohwa Group, signing a contract for 3+2 17,500 DWT multi-purpose vessels. Following its previous projects in chemical tankers and offshore tugboats, this marks another breakthrough in the Southeast Asian market.

The 17,500 DWT multi-purpose vessel measures 145.65 meters in overall length, 22.80 meters in beam, and has a design draft of 8.30 meters. Equipped with two 80-ton cranes, it is classed by Bureau Veritas (BV). Featuring a bow-steering design, the vessel offers enhanced safety, environmental protection, and green energy efficiency compared to similar vessels.
Bohwa Group is an international shipping enterprise headquartered in Singapore, with operations spanning vessel management, maritime logistics, and shipping asset management. It is committed to providing safe, efficient, and green shipping logistics solutions to global clients. This collaboration marks an important beginning for both parties in jointly exploring the international shipping market.
Since the beginning of this year, Shandong Luhai Equipment Group has firmly focused on the industry trends of high-end, intelligent, and green development in equipment manufacturing. The company established a task force for shipbuilding, offshore engineering, and shipping, charting a path of transformation and upgrading in the shipbuilding and offshore engineering sector characterized by “expanding from tugboats to merchant ships and from domestic to international markets.”
In terms of product types, Shandong Luhai Equipment Group has upgraded from traditional vessels to high-value-added ship designs. It has successfully expanded into international markets such as the UK, Germany, and Singapore, broadening its business scope from domestic to global operations. For instance, the Group recently announced the signing of an international order for 3+1 12,600 DWT multi-purpose vessels, marking its successful entry into the UK market. This development exemplifies the accelerated pace of the company’s offshore equipment business going global.
The 12,600 DWT multi-purpose vessel measures 149.9 meters in length overall, 22.8 meters in beam, and has a design draft of 7.5 meters, enabling flexible loading of oversized cargo such as wind power equipment and offshore engineering modules. Featuring green energy efficiency, superior maneuverability, and strong cargo-handling capabilities, it represents a new generation of multi-purpose vessels designed for green, low-carbon, and environmentally friendly operations.
Shandong Luhai Equipment Group stated that it will continue to work hand in hand with partners from all sectors to forge high-quality vessels, provide services that exceed expectations, and strive to become a leader in high-end tugboats, a member of the first tier of 10,000-ton MPVs, and a strong competitor in chemical tankers.
