A Greek bulk carrier owner has placed an additional order for two large bulk carriers with a Japanese shipyard.

Drydel Shipping, the bulk carrier shipping company led by Costas Dellaportas (formerly Meadway Shipping and Trading), has placed an additional order for two 182,000 DWT Capesize bulk carriers with Japan’s Namura Shipbuilding, bringing its total order for vessels of this type at the shipyard to four.
In 2024, Drydel Shipping announced its entry into the Capesize bulk carrier market, placing an order with Namura Shipbuilding for two 182,000 DWT bulk carriers. The first two vessels are scheduled for delivery in 2028.
In addition to four Capesize bulk carriers, Drydel Shipping had previously ordered four Handysize bulk carriers from Namura Shipbuilding.
According to its official website, DryDel Shipping is a Greek dry bulk shipping company that officially changed its name on February 19, 2024, to distinguish itself from Meadway Bulkers, established in 2021 by George Dellaportas, a relative of Costas Dellaportas.
The company currently operates a modern fleet of 12 dry bulk carriers with an average age of just 4 years, all constructed by Japanese shipyards. It also maintains a fleet of 22 vessels chartered under long-term time charter agreements. Regarding newbuild orders, the company has at least 10 new vessels on order, all built by Japanese shipyards, scheduled for delivery over the coming years.
Namura Shipbuilding is one of Japan’s major shipyards, specializing in the construction of mainstream vessel types including bulk carriers, oil tankers, and LPG carriers, while also undertaking ship repair and steel structure engineering. Equipped with large dry docks and indoor workshops, the shipyard has the capability to build vessels ranging from 100,000 to 300,000 deadweight tons.
