Singapore Ferry Hits 50,000 DWT Tanker in Singapore, All Passengers Evacuated Safely

On November 10 at approximately 5 p.m. local time, the Horizon 9, a high-speed catamaran ferry owned by Singapore ferry company Horizon Ferry, collided with the LA Digue, a 50,000 DWT MR product tanker, while en route from Batam Island, Indonesia to Singapore Harbour Centre.

According to video footage from the scene, the small ferry “Horizon 9”, with a gross tonnage of less than 500 tons, collided with the 50,300 DWT MR product tanker “LA Digue”. At the time of the incident, the ferry was carrying 165 passengers and 7 crew members, a total of 172 people.

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore issued a statement confirming that the incident resulted in damage to the ferry’s bow section, with no passenger injuries reported. All personnel have been safely evacuated. The oil tanker was reportedly unaffected by the collision.

Following the incident, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore immediately dispatched patrol vessels to escort and guide the ferry back to Marina Bay Centre. Subsequently, all 172 passengers and crew members aboard the Horizon 9 were successfully evacuated at the regional ferry terminal.

The agency further stated: “The bow section above the waterline sustained damage, but the vessel maintained normal navigation during its return voyage. The ‘LA Digue’ reported no damage. No injuries to passengers or crew, nor pollution resulting from the incident, have been reported. Maritime traffic and port operations remain unaffected.”

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore is currently investigating the incident.

According to data transmitted by the Automatic Identification System (AIS), both the ferry and the oil tanker involved were shown to be anchored; the location of the “Horizon 9” was shown to be near the Keppel shipyard.
