On November 8, the 11,500 TEU LNG dual-fuel container ship “MSC EMILIA”, built by Zhoushan Changhong International for Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), was successfully christened. On the afternoon of November 10, both parties signed the delivery documents via video conference, completing the formal delivery of the MSC EMILIA.

It is understood that this ship type was jointly developed and designed by Zhoushan Changhong International and CIMC Ocean Engineering Design & Research Institute (CIMC ORIC), with fully shared intellectual property rights. Classed by Lloyd’s Register (LR), the ship has an overall length of 335 meters, a beam of 45.6 meters, a depth of 25 meters and a design speed of 20 knots.
This ship features a dual-island layout and is equipped with the largest Type C LNG fuel tanks in its class. The range in both LNG and fuel oil modes can meet the single round-trip requirements of classic China-Europe or China-US routes, ensuring the flexibility of the shipowner’s operating plan.
This ship type features clean, eco-friendly, and low-carbon emission characteristics, achieving approximately 5% fuel savings compared to existing vessels of the same class. Equipped with shaft generators and wind deflectors, its Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) is reduced by about 40% below the stringent IMO Tier III emissions baseline.
Furthermore, the ship incorporates forward-looking technology, featuring not only dual-fuel propulsion using LNG and conventional fuel but also the industry’s most advanced ammonia fuel “ready” design.
