Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding Lays Keel for PIL’s 13,000 TEU Dual-Fuel Boxship

Recently, Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding laid keel for the first 13,000 TEU dual-fuel container ship built for Pacific International Lines (PIL), at the No. 1 dock in its western shipyard recently.

It is a green and environmentally friendly container ship independently developed by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding, tailored specifically for the shipowner. With an overall length of 335 meters and a beam of 51 meters, it boasts a maximum container capacity of 13,000 TEU and can carry 2,200 refrigerated containers.

The ship is equipped with an LNG dual-fuel propulsion system and features a 12,000 m³ B-type LNG fuel tank independently developed by Hudong-Zhonghua, ensuring an exceptional range of 22,000 nautical miles in gas mode.

This ship type boasts superior environmental performance, featuring an intelligent exhaust gas recirculation (iCER) system to enhance combustion efficiency and reduce emissions. The bow incorporates a proprietary wind deflector design to further minimize navigation resistance.

These innovative technologies and designs enable the vessel to achieve low overall energy consumption, high speed performance, and superior environmental sustainability. Specifically, while meeting the most stringent international environmental regulations, it provides customers with more efficient and economical maritime transportation solutions.

It is reported that the order was signed in August 2024 for five 13,000 TEU LNG dual-fuel powered large container ships. As the largest shipping company headquartered in Southeast Asia, PIL focuses on container shipping as its core business while diversifying into container manufacturing and logistics. Its service network spans 90 countries and regions worldwide.
