Pakistan Teams Up with Chinese Firm in Major Shipyard Push to Boost Maritime Infrastructure

Pakistani media reports indicate that officials from Pakistan’s Ministry of Maritime Affairs have confirmed the department’s decision to allocate a berth at Port Qasim to a Chinese enterprise for the construction of a new shipyard.

The report stated that Pakistan’s Federal Maritime Minister Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said, “The decision to provide a ready-made wharf at Qasim Port to Chinese companies for the construction of a new shipyard in order to enhance Pakistan’s shipbuilding capacity has been officially finalized.”

According to information disclosed by Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, the proposed shipyard will have an annual shipbuilding capacity of six vessels, significantly enhancing Pakistan’s shipbuilding potential. He added that Pakistan will settle all project-related payments in its national currency, the Pakistani rupee.

In addition to the shipyard under construction in partnership with Chinese enterprises, the Pakistani government is currently identifying another shipyard site. This initiative forms a crucial component of Pakistan’s plan to advance its maritime infrastructure and industrial capacity.
