Chizhou Tianyu Shipbuilding Commences Steel Cutting for 6 LNG-Powered Vessels

Recently, Chizhou Tianyu Shipbuilding cut steel for six liquefied natural gas (LNG) powered vessels at the Ship Industry Base in Guichi District, Chizhou City.

The vessels under construction are all LNG-powered, dual-purpose distribution vessels, with an overall length of 119.98 meters, a beam of 20.80 meters and a depth of 8.40 meters.

The core technological advantage of these vessels lies in their comprehensive clean energy propulsion system, equipped with two natural gas single-fuel engines, each with a power output of 1,103 kilowatts, for a total power output of 2,206 kilowatts. Compared to traditional fuel-powered vessels, these LNG-powered vessels significantly reduce carbon and pollutant emissions, precisely aligning with the development requirements of China’s “dual carbon” strategy.

The concentrated construction of six LNG-powered vessels reflects the growing popularity of the new energy shipbuilding industry at the Guichi Shipbuilding Industrial Base. Earlier this year, construction of Anhui Province’s first batch of new energy vessels commenced at the base, laying a solid foundation for the development of the regional new energy shipbuilding industry. As one of Anhui Province’s three major riverside shipbuilding bases, the Guichi Shipbuilding Industrial Base boasts significant advantages in industrial concentration—it boasts the largest number of shipbuilding companies, the longest contiguous Changjiang River coastline, and the largest land area—providing unique foundations for industrial transformation and upgrading.

In recent years, the Guichi Shipbuilding Industrial Base has consistently prioritized green and intelligent development as core pillars of high-quality development, continuously promoting the transformation and upgrading of its shipbuilding industry. Currently, the base’s green manufacturing capabilities are steadily improving, and the scale of its new energy shipbuilding industry is continuously expanding. The base currently has orders for 34 new energy vessels, 11 of which are under construction and one has been successfully completed.

Statistics show that by September 2025, ship repair and construction enterprises above designated size within the Guichi Shipbuilding Industrial Base achieved an output value of RMB 616 million, representing a 432.2% increase compared to the same period last year. The intelligent and green shipbuilding industry has become a key growth engine driving high-quality economic development in Guichi District and the broader region.
