China’s HRDD Signs Major FSO Conversion Contract with Greek Shipowner

Recently, China’s Huarun Dadong Dockyard Co., Ltd. (HRDD) signed a major retrofitting contract with Sahara World Carrier Shipmanagement, a renowned Greek shipowner, for the “Century” floating storage and offloading vessel (FSO).

It is understood that the vessel is a 20-year-old oil tanker measuring 274.2 meters in length, 48 meters in width, and 22.4 meters in depth, and is classed by Bureau Veritas. The project duration is five and a half months, with construction scheduled to commence on November 20, 2025.

This project not only covers a massive scope of work, including routine repairs throughout the vessel and extensive specialized coating applications, but also requires the integration and completion of multiple high-tech, high-difficulty core conversion tasks.

The project primarily includes the addition of a helicopter platform, a deck stowage platform, a quick release device, a LACT module, and living quarters refurbishment. Upon completion of the retrofit, the vessel’s performance and operational capabilities will be significantly enhanced, while the living and accommodation conditions for the crew will be improved.

Over the years, HRDD has accumulated extensive construction technology and management experience in high-end shipbuilding and offshore engineering conversions, achieving numerous global and national firsts and other remarkable achievements. HRDD stated that it will continue to utilize a scientific management system and stringent quality standards to ensure the safe, high-quality, and efficient delivery of projects.
