Imabari Shipbuilding Secures First Aframax Tanker Orders in 17 Years

On September 29, Japan-based major Imabari Shipbuilding announced that the company, in collaboration with its joint venture shipyard Nihon Shipyard and Marubeni Corporation, has successfully secured orders for two 107,000 DWT Aframax oil tankers from a Greek shipowner. The vessels are scheduled for delivery in 2027 and 2028, respectively.

Imabari Shipbuilding announced that to establish a future-oriented production system, the company will adopt the large-scale modular construction process used in the 2000s to build these two Aframax tankers.

It is worth noting that this is Imabari Shipbuilding’s first new ship order since it delivered the Aframax tanker in 2008, 17 years ago.

It is reported that Imabari Shipbuilding’s main ship order type this year is bulk carriers, with a total of five ships signed, namely two 40,000 DWT bulk carriers from Japan’s Shinomiya Tanker, one 40,300 DWT bulk carrier from Intercontinental Shipping, one 64,000 DWT bulk carrier from Greece’s Meadway Bulkers and one 92,000-dwt bulk carrier from Singapore’s Jaldhi Overseas.
