China’s Beihai Shipbuilding to Build Two 210,000 DWT Eco-Friendly Bulk Carriers for Domestic Owner

On September 30, China State Shipbuilding Corporation’s Beihai Shipbuilding, together with China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd. (CSTC) signed a contract with Chinese Maritime Transport for the construction of two 210,000 DWT bulk carriers. This marks another joint venture between the parties in the 210,000 DWT bulk carrier sector, fully demonstrating mutual trust and support while highlighting the shipowner’s high recognition of Beihai Shipbuilding’s product quality.

Dai Shengjian, General Manager of China Maritime Transport, Zheng Minsheng, Deputy General Manager of CSTC’s Asia-Pacific Division, and Luo Le, General Manager of Beihai Shipbuilding, jointly signed the construction contract. Peng Shixiao, Chairman of China Maritime Transport, Ou Chuanjie, Chairman of Beihai Shipbuilding, and other leaders and guests attended the ceremony.

This 210,000 DWT bulk carrier contracted this time is the fifth-generation product independently designed by China Ship Design & Research Center. The vessel has an overall length of 300 meters, a beam of 50 meters, a depth of 25.2 meters, and a structural draft of 18.5 meters.

This generation of ship designs features comprehensive optimization of hull shape, taking into account operational characteristics under both full load and ballast conditions. Particular emphasis was placed on reducing wave-induced drag in heavy sea conditions, resulting in an overall propulsion efficiency improvement exceeding 6% compared to the previous generation. The eco-friendly design meets EEDI3 and NOx Tier III standards, while the integrated EGCS system achieves sulfur oxide emission reduction, delivering breakthroughs in both efficiency and environmental performance.

China Shipping Group currently specializes in international bulk carrier transportation and has established its own fleet of Capesize bulk carriers, serving major global charterers.

Beihai Shipbuilding remains focused on its core shipbuilding market, having constructed and delivered over a hundred large dry bulk carriers of various types. It holds a leading global market share in the large bulk carrier segment. Both parties’ core businesses are highly complementary, with aligned development goals, presenting significant scope and potential for cooperation.
