On September 17, the world’s first 9,300 CEU methanol dual-fuel powered ro-ro vessel, the Gang Rong, successfully departed its berth and sailed out of the river.
The “Gang Rong” is the first in a series of vessels built by China Merchants Heavy Industries Haimen shipyard (CMHI Haimen shipyard) for China Merchants Energy Shipping (CMES). The vessel measures 219.9 meters in length overall, 37.7 meters in midship breadth, and 10.2 meters in draft. Designed for a speed of 19 knots, it features 13 cargo deck levels and a bow-mounted bridge.
It is understood that the vessel is equipped with a methanol energy ecosystem consisting of a methanol dual-fuel main engine, a methanol dual-fuel auxiliary engine, a methanol dual-fuel boiler, a methanol supply unit, etc. It is the world’s first ro-ro vessel that uses green energy methanol as its main power source. It has a designed loading capacity of 9,300 standard parking spaces and actually has 9,492 standard parking spaces.
Notably, on the afternoon of September 17, CMES issued an announcement regarding the delivery of a new 9,300 CEU methanol dual-fuel powered ro-ro vessel. The announcement revealed that CMES, through its wholly-owned subsidiary, had taken delivery of the 9,300 CEU methanol dual-fuel powered ro-ro vessel, the “Gang Rong”, in Nantong, Jiangsu Province.
