Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Hands Over 9,000 CEU PCTC to GRIMALDI

On September 9, Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), signed and delivered the 9,000 CEU PCTC (pure car and track carrier) “GRANDE AUCKLAND” built for the Italian company GRIMALDI.

The series includes 7 PCTCs with a total length of 199.90 meters, a beam of 38.0 meters, a depth of 14.8 meters, a designed draft of 9.2 meters and a designed speed of 19.0 knots. They are equipped with MAN B&W 7S60MEC10.6-HPSCR main engines and comply with TIER II/III regulations.

The “GRANDE AUCKLAND” is the second 9,000 CEU PCTC built by Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding for GRIMALDI. With a standard loading capacity of 9,000 vehicles, it is compatible with electric vehicles, conventional fuel vehicles, and heavy ro-ro cargo.

This PCTC features a new, low-fuel-consumption main engine and integrates energy-saving features such as a twisted rudder and a cap fin, significantly reducing energy consumption. It is equipped with a medium-voltage shore power system, achieving zero-carbon emissions during berthing. It has also received RINA’s “Ammonia Ready” certification, preserving technical capabilities for future zero-carbon fuel conversions.
