On September 4, HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE), the intermediate holding company for HD Hyundai Group’s shipbuilding business, announced that it has signed a contract with an African shipping company to build two crude oil tankers. The total order value amounts to 242.2 billion won (approximately $174 million), with each vessel priced at around $87 million.
The new vessels will be constructed by HD Hyundai Samho and are scheduled for delivery in batches by December 2027. Each vessel will have a deadweight tonnage of 157,000 tons.
Including the latest orders, HD KSOE has secured orders for 84 new vessel worth $11.45 billion this year, achieving approximately 63.4% of its annual order target of $18.05 billion.
By vessel type, this includes 5 liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers, 6 LNG bunkering vessels, 8 liquefied petroleum gas (LPG)/ammonia carriers, 2 ethane carriers, 50 container ships and 13 oil tankers.
