On September 1, Northern Offshore Services (N-O-S), a Swedish offshore vessel owner and operator, announced on its official website that it had signed one of the largest orders in history for crew transfer vessels (CTVs).
N-O-S has placed an order for eight new hybrid E-class CTVs with its long-term partner shipyard, with options for additional vessels. Combined with the four vessels ordered from Singapore’s Penguin Shipyard in September 2024, N-O-S’s total order for the E-Class CTV series has reached 12. The first vessel, Explorer, is expected to arrive in Europe as early as next week.
The aluminum catamaran, approximately 36.5 meters in length and 11.2 meters in beam, can accommodate 32 passengers and has ample cargo capacity (140 square meters of foredeck and 20 square meters of aft deck). The new vessel is hybrid-electric and ready for alternative fuels and full electric operation, aiming to significantly reduce the vessel’s carbon footprint during operation.
The new 36-meter E-Class vessels are designed to meet the evolving needs of the offshore wind industry, featuring improved crew and technician comfort, large cargo capacity tailored to future offshore wind demands, a future-proof platform that supports the transition to electric and alternative fuels, as well as an improved hull design and advanced automation system to optimise energy efficiency.
It is understood that Northern Offshore Services, a subsidiary of Northern Offshore Group (N-O-G), is a leading global provider of crew transfer vessels. Its fleet focuses on high-performance vessels, offering comprehensive services and flexible solutions. The company operates across Europe, the United States, and Japan, with offices in Sweden, Denmark, and the United Kingdom.
