Great Lakes Dredge & Dock, the largest dredging service provider in the United States, announced that it has taken delivery of the trailing suction hopper dredger Amelia Island from the Conrad Shipyard in Louisiana. The Jones Act-compliant vessel will operate alongside its sister vessel, Galveston Island.
The Amelia Island is designed with a high level of automation and is specifically designed for efficient and safe operations in shallow and narrow waters along all US coastlines. It can be used for beach restoration, coastal protection, channel deepening and maintenance dredging services.
The vessel is approximately 105 meters in length, 21 meters in width, and 7 meters in depth, with a total power output of 16,500 horsepower. It is equipped with two 800-millimeter suction dredge pipes, capable of dredging to a depth of 100 feet, with a hopper capacity of 6,330 cubic yards.
The main engine and generator both meet the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Tier IV emissions standards, featuring low-emission characteristics.
The Amelia Island is the sixth trailing suction hopper dredger in the Great Lakes Dredge & Dock fleet, and its delivery marks an important milestone, signifying the completion of the company’s dredger expansion program.
