On August 12, Taizhou Kouan shipbuilding – Taizhou Zhonghang Shipbuilding and King Ship (HK) Limited officially signed a contract for the construction of four 63,000 DWT general cargo vessels. This follows the order placed by Kim Ship Shipping on May 9, 2024, for eight vessels of the same type at Kouan Shipbuilding, marking a further deepening of cooperation between the two parties and bringing the total number of orders for the vessels to 12.
As a large-scale private shipbuilding enterprise in Jiangsu Province, Kouan Shipbuilding has continuously improved its technical strength and construction efficiency in recent years, and has won numerous international orders in the fields of bulk carriers, container ships, stainless steel chemical tankers, etc.
As the largest new type of general cargo vessel with the largest tonnage ever commissioned by Kouan Shipbuilding, the 63,000 DWT general cargo vessel features operational advantages such as energy conservation and environmental protection, strong cargo adaptability, and high economic efficiency. It complies with the latest environmental regulations of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and meets the operational requirements of major ports around the world.
Following its initial order for eight vessels, KING SHIP (HK) LIMITED has placed an additional order for four vessels in a short period of time. This order aims to further optimize its fleet structure and respond to the low-carbon trend in the global shipping market. It also demonstrates its high recognition of Kouan Shipbuilding’s product quality, technical strength, and construction capabilities.
With this signing, Kouan Shipbuilding’s order backlog has been further strengthened, with some production lines now scheduled for production through the first half of 2029. Kouan Shipbuilding General Manager Zhang Tao stated that the company will strictly control the production schedule and coordinate the construction progress to ensure the safe, high-quality, and on-schedule delivery of this series of vessels. Kouan Shipbuilding also looks forward to expanding collaboration with international partners such as KING SHIP (HK) LIMITED.
