Imabari Shipbuilding Delivers Eco-Friendly 7,000 CEU LNG Dual-Fuel PCTC Cuts Emissions by 30%

On August 5, Imabari Shipbuilding, Japan’s largest shipbuilding group, officially delivered the 7,000 CEU LNG dual-fuel powered PCTC (pure car and track carrier) “AMPHITRITE HIGHWAY”.

“AMPHITRITE HIGHWAY” is 199.93 meters long, 38.0 meters wide, and 38.76 meters deep with a deadweight of 18,652 tons and a gross tonnage of 77,650. Equipped with a 6S60ME-C10.5-GI main engine, it has a speed of approximately 18.25 knots and is classed by ClassNK (Nippon Kaiji Kyokai) and flies the Panamanian flag.

Imabari Shipbuilding stated that compared to PCTCs using conventional marine fuel, the AMPHITRITE HIGHWAY can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 25-30% and produce almost no sulfur oxide emissions. Furthermore, by equipping the vessel with an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system, nitrogen oxide emissions can be reduced by 80-90%.

Since the ship’s LNG fuel tank continuously produces vapor gas (BOG), the vapor gas can be used to power generators and boilers, making it more environmentally friendly.

Since the LNG fuel tank equipped on this PCTC continuously generates boil-off gas (BOG), the BOG can be used for generators and boilers, thereby making it more environmentally friendly.

In addition, the vessel adopts a partitionless structure, with widened ramps arranged in a straight line, which simplifies vehicle driving routes and improves safety as well as loading and unloading efficiency. The height of the elevating deck can be adjusted vertically, allowing it to carry not only passenger cars but also trucks, trailers, and other large freight vehicles.
