COSCO Shipping Lines Christens 16,136 TEU Methanol Dual-Fuel Ship “COSCO SHIPPING Panama” in Yangzhou

On July 18, COSCO Shipping Lines successfully christened another 16,136 TEU methanol dual-fuel container ship at COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Yangzhou). The ship was named “COSCO SHIPPING Panama”.

“COSCO SHIPPING Panama” is 366 meters long, 51 meters wide and has a maximum container capacity of 16,136 TEUs. The new ship is equipped with an 11,000 cubic meter large methanol storage tank, a domestically produced methanol dual-fuel main engine independently developed by CSSC Power (Group) Corporation Ltd. (CPGC), and a methanol dual-fuel marine boiler and a methanol generator set. Through the dual-fuel system, the new ship can freely switch fuel modes according to route requirements, achieving world-leading levels of operational flexibility and stability.

At present, the first ship “COSCO SHIPPING Yangpu” has been successfully put into operation, and has recently completed bunkerings of green methanol in Yangpu Port, Yangshan Port and Dalian Port, fully verifying the feasibility of “Chinese ships + Chinese green fuel” and demonstrating COSCO SHIPPING Group’s full-chain independent capabilities from ship design and construction to green fuel supply.

The ongoing advancement of the 16,000 TEU methanol dual-fuel container ship project represents COSCO Shipping Group’s commitment to driving the global shipping industry’s green transformation through “full-chain innovation,” as well as COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Yangzhou)’s innovative efforts in the research and development of green, low-carbon, and intelligent ships.
