On November 4, Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (DSIC), a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), held a steel cutting ceremony for the world’s first 113,000 DWT liquid ammonia dual-fuel-powered Aframax tanker, which is being built for AET, a tanker company under Malaysia’s MISC Group.

The vessel has an overall length of 249.8 meters, a beam of 44 meters, and a depth of 21.2 meters. It features a newly developed, proprietary hull design that offers superior performance in terms of energy efficiency, cargo capacity, and operational adaptability.
Equipped with a WinGD dual-fuel main engine capable of running on liquid ammonia, the vessel complies with IMO Tier III emission standards and meets the requirements of EEDI Phase 3. By utilizing liquid ammonia as its primary fuel, the ship effectively reduces emissions of carbon oxides and sulfur oxides.
DSIC notes that ammonia-fueled vessels are attracting significant attention from the shipping industry due to their excellent low-carbon performance. The commencement of construction on this vessel marks a further expansion of DSIC’s product portfolio to include ammonia-fueled ships, building upon the company’s existing mastery of core technologies for LNG- and methanol-fueled vessels.
