On July 10, Southeast Shipyard, a subsidiary of Fujian Shipbuilding Industry Group Corporation (Fujian Shipbuilding), successfully delivered a 18,500DWT oil and chemical tanker. So far, Southeast Shipyard has successfully completed the construction of the 18,500 DWT oil tankers (DN18500 series) for the British shipowner.
This tanker has a total length of 149.8 meters and a beam of 22.8 meters. It is mainly used to transport product oil, vegetable oil and bulk chemicals (Class II and Class III) with a test flash point of ≤60°C that meet the requirements of the IBC specification. It has the characteristics of shallow draft and large cargo capacity, and meets the requirements of unlimited navigation areas. The vessel adopts the methanol dual-fuel reserved design concept, meets the IMO Tier III emission standards and can be upgraded to use clean energy methanol fuel in the future.
In terms of energy efficiency, the vessel is equipped with two rotor sail devices manufactured by NORSEPOWER in Finland. The device utilizes the Magnus effect to provide additional propulsion for vessels in suitable wind conditions. It can automatically adjust its speed and deflection angle according to meteorological conditions such as wind direction and wind speed, reducing the output power required by the main propulsion system at the same speed, thereby achieving the goals of saving fuel costs and reducing emissions.
Fujian Shipbuilding actively promoted the R&D, design, material procurement and construction of the project, and closely linked the block construction and dock assembly. By coordinating resources, moving the process forward and optimizing the special coating process, it significantly shortened the cargo oil tank special coating cycle and successfully completed the challenges of adding a new sail base to increase the slipway erection pressure. The construction quality and speed of the series of vessels have been greatly improved compared to the first vessel.
