Imabari Shipbuilding Delivers Ammonia/Methanol-Ready 13,900TEU Giant to ONE

On June 30, Hiroshima Shipyard of Imabari Shipbuilding delivered the 13,900TEU ammonia/methanol reserved container vessel “ONE SINGAPORE” to Ocean Network Express (ONE).

ONE Singapore is the sixth vessel in a series of 20 ammonia/methanol ready container vessels. The naming ceremony took place on 17 June 2025.

“ONE SINGAPORE” measures 336.00 meters in length, 51.00 meters in width, and 30.10 meters in depth, with a gross tonnage of 140,000. It is equipped with a 7G95ME-C10.6 main engine and has a speed of approximately 22 knots. In the future, the vessel can be converted to use methanol/ammonia fuel and install a carbon capture system, and has already obtained approval in principle (AiP) from the classification society.

The vessel can carry up to approximately 13,932 standard containers and is equipped with up to four layers of lashing bridges on the deck, allowing it to carry a large number of refrigerated containers in the hold and on deck, as well as various dangerous goods specified in the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code.

In addition, to comply with the emission limits of sulfur oxides (SOx) and nitrogen oxides (NOx), the vessel is equipped with a hybrid exhaust gas cleaning system (EGCS) and an exhaust gas recirculation system (EGR). Other environmental protection measures include a ballast water treatment system and an inventory list that complies with the Ship Recycling Convention.

The 13,900 TEU vessel, which is methanol and ammonia-ready, is another demonstration of ONE’s commitment to sustainable shipping practices. Following the successful integration of ONE Sparkle – ONE’s first owned newbuilding – and subsequent sister vessels, ONE Singapore will strengthen the company’s service offerings on the trade lanes where she will be deployed.

It is worth mentioning that ONE’s first 13,000 TEU ammonia/methanol-ready container ship, the ONE Sparkle, was named in mid-February this year. The ship was built by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries.

Says Jeremy Nixon, CEO, “This vessel, carrying the name of our global headquarters city, symbolizes our strong connection to Singapore’s vibrant maritime ecosystem. As we deploy this vessel into service, we continue to build upon ONE’s strong commitment to Singapore, in its prime position as the leading global international maritime centre.”

Since establishing its global headquarters in Singapore in 2017, ONE has become an integral part of Singapore’s maritime community. The company’s headquarters serves as the command center for its global network operations.

ONE Singapore represents the continued execution of ONE’s strategy to build a more sustainable and efficient fleet. She is classed LR and Singapore flagged.

For the Japanese shipbuilding industry, despite a slight decline in shipbuilding volume and orders, Japanese shipyards, including Imabari Shipbuilding, have remained active so far this year.

Imabari Shipbuilding completed the delivery of six new ships in one month at the beginning of this year. By the end of June, the company had delivered several new ships from different fields, including the LNG dual-fuel car carrier “Triton Highway” of Japan’s Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (“K” LINE), the container ship “Maersk Namsos” of Maersk, and the “ONE Sapphire” of ONE.
